Dumfries Museum, The Observatory
Now part of the largest museum in South West Scotland, the museums windmill tower was a well known sight to Burns. It houses a remarkable Camera Obscura which was installed in 1836 when the building was converted to an observatory. On the table top screen you will see fascinating panoramic views of Dumfries and the surrounding countryside on clear days and the range is many miles. The museums collections are a treasure house of the history of Dumfries and Galloway.
