Castle St John
Visitor Center

Medieval tower house built around 1500 by Ninian Adair, one of the most
powerful landowners in Wigtonshire. Videos and reconstructions tell the
story of the castle from it early days through to its use as a government
base during the suppression of the Covenanters and its later role as a town
prison. Videos and reconstructions are used to tell the Castle story. A Castle activity booklet
helps children and families to explore the building, whilst the "dressing up box"
in the activity room provides fun for both children and adult alike, Steep spiral stair
